The Summer 2016 English Camp was again held at Camp Aist, July 3-10. Coming back to the same location brought many memories and gave us a chance to see our Ukrainian friends once more. Among the 50+ orphans who joined our program, many were repeats from 2015. Our team was composed of 7 volunteers, both local and American.
The program went smoothly in its established format: a few hours of formal English classes a day and countless hours spent on socializing. The time of our visit coincided with the celebration of a traditional Slavic holiday Kupala Knight. The entire camp was having festivities at the lake located within the camp area.
Towards the end of the course, our students, together with other campers and adult employees, participated in creating a large “We Love English” banner. During the Award Ceremony, each participant received a customized drawstring backpack filled with simple yet useful goodies: toothbrush, toothpaste, lip balm, sunscreen, socks, etc. The most enthusiastic participants received extra prizes, like puzzles and toys.
