Understandably, due to the world-wide COVID-19 pandemic, the Summer 2020 camp was cancelled. Nonetheless, out short trip to Ukraine turned out to be quite meaningful and fruitful.
It was determined that the Forest Meadow Camp would remain our permanent location in the near future. Having a fixed location allows a more coordinated approach towards both travel and program functioning.
We had productive meetings with several partnering organizations involved with our program. One of our partners, the Kharkiv Regional Volunteer Center that recruits local volunteers for us, invited us to a series of events organized for special-need kids that we gladly attended.
In addition to some formal meetings, we were so pleased to spend time with some of our former students, who participated in our Leadership Camps in 2018 and 2019. We also had enjoyable encounters with a few people affiliated with our Ukrainian Orphan Project in the past.
By the end of our trip, we felt fully prepared for future Youth Leadership Camps, once the pandemic restrictions are lifted.
